                   To provide academic training of the highest quality in order to equip cadets with appropriate qualification as a foundation for their service careers.To inculcate in cadets qualities of leadership, a desire for self improvement and a drive to excel in every sphere. Incorporate culture of jointmanship in training and to promote the spirit of jointmanship in thought, word and deed. Conduct high quality service training to enable cadets to have a substantial edge over their counterparts during their service careers.

The National Defence Academy (NDA) is the Joint Services academy of the Indian Armed Forces, where cadets of the three services, the Army, the Navy and the Air Force train together before they go on to pre-commissioning training in their respective service academies. The NDA is located in Khadakwasla near Pune, Maharashtra. It is the first tri-service academy in the world. NDA alumni have led and fought in every major conflict in which the Indian Armed Forces has been called to action since the academy was established. The alumni include 3 Param Vir Chakra recipients and 9 Ashoka Chakra recipients

The eligibility criteria include nationality, age limit, educational qualification and physical standard. As per NDA eligibility criteria 2019, candidates must be between 16.5 and 19.5 years of age. Candidates having appeared or appearing in class 12 (10+2) examination will be eligible to appear for NDA 2019.
